7. Product Options & Values

fmProductAttributes, fmEditProductOption, fmEditProductOptionValue

This chapter describes how to manage osCommerce product options and their values.

Using Product Options&Values button you will be able to perform basic operations (add, edit, delete) with all of your osCommerce products. The main page of this section looks like this:

There Options appear as folders (marked in blue) and Values are listed after expanding an option. Add, Edit and Delete dropdowns include corresponding actions for either product option or product value. Basically, a specific value of some option is an attribute. So these data are used while creating and editing osCommerce product attributes.

Here the following topics are covered:

  • Product Options
  • Option Values

Product Options

From product options toolbar and context menu, you can perform the following basic operations:

1. Refresh Data forces options list update. It is useful when you're changing connection or have any doubts whether the latest data are displayed of not.

2. Add -> New Product Option button calls blank "Edit osCommerce product option" form, which is used to create a new option.

3. To edit osCommerce product option you can double click on it, or use Edit Product Option button. It calls Edit osCommerce product option form for selected product option. You can change Product Option name here.

If you have your store running in more than one language you'll be able to see the language tabs in this form to write Option Name in any language available.

4. You can Delete Selected Product Option from store using "Delete" button on the toolbar.

By deleting an option you'll delete all it's values as well and remove all references. So if some osCommerce products have let's say Color option, this option will be removed from all products that includes it.

You won't be able to undo deleting action, unless you've made a database backup.

5. You can Remove Option from Products using corresponding command in the option's context menu.

This action is similar to the previous one, but while deleting an option from osCommerce products you will not eliminate it and it's values from the store, but you will remove all references to it in products. So if some products have let's say Black Color attribute, this attribute will be removed from all osCommerce products.

6. You can simplify options management by using Expand all or Collapse icons on the the toolbar.
